About the Ñentre

The Union Rights' Defence Centre is a Non-governmental organization that functions within the framework of the Confederation of Labour of Russia (KTR) and its aim is to advocate for the fundamental rights of workers: for unions, for creating trade unions, for the right to collective bargaining, for strikes.

Today, even if these rights are recognised in most ‘Post-soviet’ countries, this recognition is only declarative and is under constant threat. Market liberalization, employers taking the law into their own hands, government policy and judicial practice create obstacles for workers in their pursuit of defending their interests and to get better conditions for themselves and a better life for their families.

The Union Rights' Defence Centre:
• Conducts monitoring of the violation of fundamental trade union and social-labour rights of workers both in Russia and in other countries of the former Soviet Union;
• Provides the necessary legal and practical aid to trade unions and also to workers who are eager to fight and join a union for the purpose of protecting their rights;
• Organises public campaigns in support of workers and trade unions activists under pressure.

The director of the Centre is Valentin Urusov.
